QUICKSAND CREEK. Quicksand Creek rises six miles north of Newton in north central Newton County (at 30°57' N, 93°44' W). Intermittent in its early stages, the creek follows a southeasterly course for twenty miles to its mouth on the Sabine River, 1½ miles east of Bon Wier (at 30°45' N, 93°37' W). Quicksand Creek's main tributary is Little Quicksand Creek, which rises five miles southwest of Burkeville in north central Newton County (at 30°57' N, 93°44' W). Intermittent in its upper reaches, Little Quicksand Creek runs southeast for fourteen miles before reaching its mouth on Quicksand Creek, five miles north of Bon Wier (at 30°48' N, 93°39' W). The watercourse, as well as a community of the same name, was named for quicksand in the stream. Quicksand Creek flows through the gently undulating hills and loamy and sandy soils that characterize north central Newton County. Longleaf pine forest flanks the creek.
