ROSS, REUBEN (?-?). Reuben Ross, a native of Virginia, was a member of the Gutiérrez-Magee expedition^qv from May 1812 to June 16, 1813. At the battle of Rosillo^qv on March 29, 1813, Ross and Samuel Kemper^qv routed the Spanish forces by leading a furious charge. Ross became the senior Anglo-American officer with the expedition after Kemper's departure, but Ross himself left the army in June 1813. Some years later, while visiting Mexico in hope of getting remuneration for his services, he was killed by robbers. A nephew by the same name served in the Texas army from 1836 to 1839 and was in service under Antonio Canales Rosillo^qv on the Rio Grande.
