RALEIGH, TEXAS (Fannin County). Raleigh, a small rural community in Fannin County, was established during the 1830s. It derived its name from that of Raleigh, North Carolina, the hometown of its founder, John G. Jouitt. Raleigh was incorporated in 1839 and had a post office by the next year. By 1850, however, it had ceased to exist as an organized community.
