RED MUD CREEK (Dickens County). Red Mud Creek heads in southwest Dickens County (at 33°32' N, 101°01' W) about seven miles north of the Red Mud community and two miles east of the Crosby county line. The stream originates at an elevation of about 2,600 feet and flows generally southeast for thirty miles. It crosses rolling to steep slopes with thin clay and sandy loam soils covered by juniper, cacti, mesquite, and sparse grasses. Red Mud Creek enters the Salt Fork of the Brazos River in southwest Kent County (at 33°17' N, 100°54' W) about twelve miles northwest of Clairemont. The creekbed descends nearly 600 feet during its course through isolated ranchland.
