RESACA DE LOS CUATES. Resaca de los Cuates rises three miles southeast of San Benito and two miles west of Russelltown in south central Cameron County (at 26°05' N, 97°37' W) and winds sixty-two miles northeast to its mouth on the Laguna Madre, nine miles northeast of the Cameron County Airport (at 26°16' N, 97°21' W). The local low-rolling to flat terrain is surfaced by deep to shallow sandy and clay loams that support scrub brush and cacti. There are various communities, including colonias, along the creek course, and toward its end the stream runs through the center of Bayview. Cuates means "twins" or "close friends" in Spanish; apparently the name Resaca de los Cuates was given to the stream because it flowed as a double stream.
