RAMIRENA CREEK. Ramirena Creek rises eighteen miles southwest of George West in southwestern Live Oak County (at 28°09' N, 98°19' W) and runs east for twenty-six miles to its mouth on Lake Corpus Christi, fourteen miles southeast of George West (at 28°09' N, 97°57' W). It probably took its name from brothers named Ramirez who built a fort on the creek to protect themselves from Indians. The stream initially traverses low-rolling to flat terrain with local dissections and then descends to flat land with locally shallow depressions. The shallow clay and sandy loams support scrub brush, cacti, and grasses in the creek's upper reaches and water-tolerant hardwoods and grasses in its lower.
