SOUTH LLANO RIVER STATE PARK. South Llano River State Park is on U.S. Highway 377 four miles south of Junction in Kimble County. The 507-acre park features 1.5 miles of river front along the south shore of the Llano River. Approximately 440 acres are bottomland, heavily wooded with pecan trees. Hundreds of wild turkeys roost in the area in the fall and feast on the pecans. The land was formerly part of the ranch of Warner Buck, who donated it to the state in 1977. The park opened in 1990. Facilities include restrooms, camping and picnicking areas, and a hiking trial that leads into a 2,000-acre wildlife management area adjacent to the park.
