SHOREACRES, TEXAS. Shoreacres is between State highways 146 and 501 at the northwestern edge of Galveston Bay in southeastern Harris County. The town, which developed just west of Bayside Terrace from an older community called Bay Oaks, was incorporated in 1949 with a mayor-alderman form of city government and zoned for residential use only. During the 1960s it improved its water and sewage systems. The population increased from 183 in 1955 to a high of 2,578 in 1970 and was last recorded in 1990 at 1,434. In 2000 the population was 1,488.
