SAM RAYBURN, TEXAS. Sam Rayburn is located at Recreational Road 255 and Farm Road 1007 along the southern shore of Sam Rayburn Reservoir about ten miles north of Jasper in northern Jasper County. This lakeside community began by the 1970s after the completion of Sam Rayburn Reservoir. A local country club, Rayburn Country, serves as the centerpiece of the town and offers a golf course, lodging, and other recreational facilities. Sam Rayburn consists of several neighborhoods, churches, and service stations. Area tackle shops and restaurants serve locals as well as the many tourists. In 2000 the community had 600 residents.
