SAGE CREEK. Sage Creek rises eight miles southeast of Catarina in southeastern Dimmit County (at 28°15' N, 99°31' W) and flows northeast for fifteen miles, through the Chaparral Wildlife Management Area, before emptying into the Nueces River eleven miles west of Cotulla in western La Salle County (at 28°25' N, 99°24' W). The creek rises and maintains most of its course in rolling prairie, then descends to flat terrain with locally shallow depressions. Mesquite, grasses, and chaparral predominate upstream, and water-tolerant hardwoods and grasses downstream. The land surfaces are clay loams in the upper reaches and clayey and sandy loams in the lower.
