SALADO CREEK (Bexar County). Salado Creek rises in the Fair Oaks Ranch subdivision in northern Bexar County (at 29°43' N, 98°39' W) and runs southeast for thirty-eight miles, through the eastern portion of San Antonio, to its mouth on the San Antonio River, two miles northeast of Buena Vista (at 29°17' N, 98°26' W). The stream traverses rolling terrain surfaced by clay loam that supports live oak, mesquite, and grasses. It received its present name at least as early as 1716, when it was recorded as a stream in the diaries of the expedition led by Domingo Ramón.^qv Crossed by the Old San Antonio Road^qv near the present Interstate Highway 35 and Loop 410 interchange, the creek was the site of the battle of Rosillo^qv in 1813 and the battle of Salado Creek^qv in 1842.
