SALADO CREEK (Maverick County). Salado Creek rises seventeen miles east of Quemado in north central Maverick County (at 28°57' N, 100°21' W) and runs southeast for fourteen miles to its mouth on Chacon Creek, at its junction with Elm Creek (at 28°54' N, 100°11' W). It crosses flat terrain with locally shallow depressions surfaced by expansive clays that support water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, and grasses. The lower part of the stream was once known as Liveoak Creek.
