Salado Creek rises ten miles northwest of Aguilares in south central Webb County (at 27°37' N, 99°07' W) and runs northeast for twenty-nine miles to its mouth on San Casimiro Creek, twenty-eight miles northeast of Callaghan (at 27°58' N, 98°58' W). Salado Creek is dammed near its source to form Retamosa Tank and Piedra Parada Tank. Low rolling and flat terrain in the area has locally shallow depressions and is surfaced by clay and sandy loams that support grasses, mesquite, chaparral, and water-tolerant hardwoods.
