SABANA RIVER. Sabana River, an intermittent stream, rises five miles northeast of Cross Plains in southeastern Callahan County (at 32°13' N, 99°09' W) and runs southeast fifty miles, through southern Eastland County, to its mouth on Proctor Lake, in north central Comanche County (at 32°02' N, 98°31' W). The surrounding hills and rolling prairie are surfaced by clay and sandy loams that support grasses, cacti, and mesquite.
