TEXAN. The Texan, said to be the first Czech newspaper published in Texas, was started at La Grange on February 6, 1879, by E. J. Glueckman and edited by L.L. Hauslid. The weekly existed under the name Texan only until July 1879, when Frank Lidiak bought the paper and renamed it Slovan. In 1885 Lidiak sold the paper to Joseph Cada, who moved it to Bryan and in 1886 sold it to E. A. Krall. The paper was the property of a corporation when it was discontinued in December 1889.
