TEXAS MUSIC MUSEUM. The Texas Music Museum is a nonprofit organization established in Austin in 1984 as part of the Texas Sesquicentennial Project. It includes an archive, a museum, and a variety of exhibits on the history of music in Texas. Emphasizing the great cultural variety of Texas as reflected through the state's music, the museum "conducts research, collects photographs, artifacts, and documents relating to all aspects of Texas music and provides exhibits to other museums, schools, libraries, history centers, and other public facilities throughout the state." It houses an extensive collection of exhibits and archives focusing on the music of American Indians, Mexican Americans, Anglo Americans, African Americans, German Americans, and Czech Americans, which provides a wealth of information on conjunto^qv, Tejano, country^qv, ragtime, jazz, gospel^qv, classical^qv, and a variety of other musical forms.

The Museum also sponsors musical performances and educational seminars. The Texas Music Museum is endorsed by the Texas Music Association, the Texas Music Educators Association, and the Texas Music Teachers Association. The museum is located at 1009 East 11th Street in Austin.
