TANDY FOUNDATION. The Anne Burnett Tandy and Charles D. Tandy Foundation was founded in late 1978 by Anne Burnett Tandy^qv in memory of her husband, Charles D. Tandy.^qv The foundation adopted an entrepreneurial approach to philanthropy. While the charter of the foundation included no geographic or programmatic restrictions, the trustees focused its resources for the most part on the Fort Worth area. Its purpose is to support the energy and creativity that exist in the nonprofit sector, building capacity both in organizations and in people in the fields of education, health, community affairs, human services, and arts and humanities. In reviewing each request and in deciding on each grant, the objective is to target the foundation's dollars on a specific need or opportunity and to help an organization accomplish a significant task. The foundation has chosen, as a matter of policy, to make a relatively small number of grants each year. In 1994 eighty grants were paid, totaling $11,149,280. Since its inception the foundation has paid grants totaling more than $110 million. In 1993 the name was changed to the Burnett-Tandy Foundation.
