UNION, TEXAS (Marion County). Union is a rural community a half mile south of State Highway 49 and five miles northeast of Jefferson in eastern Marion County. In 1938 the community had a one-room schoolhouse that accommodated one teacher and forty-six black elementary-school students. The school was consolidated with those of Jefferson by 1955, and in 1962 the community consisted of a church, a cemetery, and several widely scattered dwellings. In 1983 there was a cemetery and a business at the site. BIBLIOGRAPHY: Jack Reed Harvey, Survey and Proposed Reorganization of the Marion County Schools (M.A. thesis, University of Texas, 1940).
