UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL TEXAS. The University of Central Texas is a four-year private college in Killeen. It was established in 1973 as the American Technological University with a first year enrollment of 260 students. The university offered both undergraduate and graduate degrees that focused on technology and career education. It was established to educate military personnel at Fort Hood on the latest technologies and has also provided programs for business and education agencies. The name was changed to University of Central Texas in 1989. In 1990-91 it had an enrollment of 539 and thirty-nine faculty members. L. Harlan Ford was president.
