VALLEY BRANCH (Montague County). Valley Branch rises in northeastern Montague County (at 33°48' N, 97°32' W) and flows northeast eleven miles into the Red River one mile northwest of Leon at the Oklahoma border in extreme northwestern Cooke County (at 33°53' N, 97°27' W). A major tributary of the creek, West Valley Branch, joins the creek near its midpoint (at 33°52' N, 97°30' W). The creek flows through flat terrain with local shallow depressions where water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, and grasses cover clay loam and sandy loam soils.
