VALLEY CREEK. Valley Creek rises at the confluence of its north and south forks, 1½ miles west of the Nolan-Taylor county line and three miles northeast of State Highway 53 in southeast Nolan County (at 32°11' N, 100°10' W). The stream flows southeast for forty-eight miles before emptying into the Colorado River five miles northeast of Rowena in south central Runnels County (at 31°43' N, 100°02' W). The vegetation along the streambed features juniper, live oak, mesquite, and grasses in the upper course; hardwoods, scrub brush, and grasses along the middle section; and water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, and grasses in the lower reaches. The creek rises in steeply sloping terrain with benches, flows through flat to rolling terrain with local scarps, and ends in flat terrain with locally shallow depressions and an expansive clay surface.
