WALLING, ELISHA (ca.1823-?). Elisha Walling, a cousin of Thomas Jefferson Walling, Jesse Walling,^qv and John Walling, is most likely to have been born in Alabama and to have immigrated to Texas from Warren County, Tennessee, in 1838. At the age of seventeen he joined Company E of the Texan Santa Fe expedition.^qv He was captured with his comrades on October 5, 1841, and marched into Mexico as a prisoner. He was released at Puebla on June 13 and sailed from Vera Cruz on August 12, 1842. He is also said to have served on the Somervell and the Mier expeditions.^qv In 1850 he was farming in Houston County, where he owned $600 in real estate. At that time he was unmarried and had no dependents.
