WAPLES, JOSEPH (1798-1846). Joseph Waples, Republic of Texasqv official, was born in Delaware in 1798. He came to Texas in 1838 and in 1839 was in charge of removing the archives from Houston to Austin, a fifteen-day task for which he received thirty dollars. He was chief clerk in the Texas Department of State before he joined the Snively expeditionqv of 1843. He was a Mason. Waples died in Houston on August 12, 1846.
