WARREN, WILLIAM G. (ca. 1805-?). William Warren, planter and slave owner, was born in North Carolina about 1805. He was living in Matagorda County in 1860, when the census listed him as fifty-five years old, holding 101 slaves and 2,500 head of cattle, and raising corn and cotton on 800 acres of improved land. He was one of the big ranchers after the Civil Warqv and provided cattle for the drives to Kansas markets.
