WOOTEN, JOE SIL (1871-1949). Joe Sil Wooten, physician, was born in Paris, Texas, on November 15, 1871, the son of Henrietta (Goodall) and Thomas Dudley Wooten.^qv In 1876 his family moved to Austin. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1892 and received his M.D. degree at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. On April 21, 1897, he married Blossom Greenwood of Palestine; they were parents of two children. In the early years of his practice, Dr. Wooten was surgeon for the Missouri, Kansas and Texas and the International-Great Northern railroads. Wooten was a member of the Travis County Lunacy Board. He was also active for many years with the Travis County chapter of the American Red Cross. For two years he was a member of the board of regents of the University of Texas. He was a member of the Travis County Medical Association, the American College of Surgeons, and the Texas Academy of Science. He belonged to the Knights Templar, the Masonic Lodge, and the First Baptist Church. He died in Austin on March 19, 1949.
