SCHLOTTMANN, WILLIAM

SCHLOTTMANN, WILLIAM F. (1825–1903). William F. Schlottmann, also listed as Wilhelm, Confederate soldier and state legislator, was born in Oppendorf, Westphalia, Prussia, on October 4, 1825. Schlottmann immigrated to Texas about 1847 and settled in Brenham, Washington County. Here, he married Elizabeth Richter on December 13, 1850. This couple had at least one child, a daughter. During the Civil War Schlottman served as a private in the Fifth Texas Infantry Regiment. He won election as a Republican for Washington County to the House of the Twelfth Texas Legislature and served from February 8, 1870, to January 14, 1873. During his term he served on the committees of Federal Relations; Roads, Bridges and Ferries; and Public Debt. Schlottmann died in Washington County on April 11, 1903, and was buried at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery in Brenham.
