HIGHLAND, TX (LAMAR COUNTY)

HIGHLAND, TEXAS (Lamar County). Highland is just northwest of Deport on U.S. Highway 271 in southeastern Lamar County. The 1936 county highway map showed two churches, a cemetery, two businesses, and a cluster of dwellings at the townsite. A 1964 map designated the cemeteries as Highland and Mount Pleasant, and showed only one church at the site. The 1983 county highway map showed Highland with a church, two cemeteries, a business, and a recreational facility.
