MOUNT ENTERPRISE MALE AND FEMALE ACADEMY
MOUNT ENTERPRISE MALE AND FEMALE ACADEMY. Mount Enterprise Male and Female Academy, at Mount Enterprise, ten miles southeast of Laneville in southern Rusk County, was chartered on February 7, 1853. Like its East Texas counterparts, Woodville Academy, established in 1849, and Millville Male and Female Academy, established in 1858, it offered a comprehensive education for both sexes until the Civil War closed it. This school was governed by a twelve-member trustee board, no more than three of whom were to be of the same religious denomination. No religious tests were required of either students or teachers at this school.
