ARROYO LOS MORENOS
ARROYO LOS MORENOS. Arroyo los Morenos begins four miles above Roma-Los Saenz in Starr County (at 26°29' N, 99°01' W) and runs southeast for five miles before it runs dry a mile northeast of Escobares (at 26°24' N, 98°57' W). The name is Spanish for "Gully of the Swarthy Ones." The upper stream crosses flat to rolling terrain with steep margins, surfaced by clay and sandy loams that support pecan, willow, and grasses. Downstream, water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, and grasses predominate.
