BIG CREEK (BOWIE COUNTY)

BIG CREEK (Bowie County). Big Creek, also known as Langum Creek, rises a mile east of New Boston in central Bowie County (at 33°28' N, 94°23' W) and flows southeast for sixteen miles to its mouth on Wright Patman Lake, ten miles south of Hooks (at 33°20' N, 94°17' W). The stream, intermittent in its upper reaches, flows through Red River Army Depot. The soils are loamy in the upper and middle reaches and clayey around the mouth. The downstream area is heavily wooded, with pines and various hardwoods predominating.
