BEAR BRANCH (LAMPASAS COUNTY)
BEAR BRANCH (Lampasas County). Bear Branch rises near Franklin Mountain two miles south of Izoro in northern Lampasas County (at 31°16' N, 98°04' W). The spring-fed but intermittent stream flows southwest for five miles to its mouth on the Lampasas River, about three miles northwest of Rumley (at 31°13' N, 98°06' W). Its course crosses an area of the Grand Prairies characterized by hills, slopes, and limestone benches, which often give a stairstep appearance to the landscape. Soils in the area are generally thin, stony, sandy and clay loams, and vegetation consists primarily of grasses and open stands of live oak, mesquite, and juniper.
