BIRCH CREEK (HOPKINS COUNTY)
BIRCH CREEK (Hopkins County). Birch Creek rises a mile southeast of downtown Sulphur Springs in south central Hopkins County (at 33°07' N, 95°38' W). The stream, which is intermittent in its upper reaches, formerly flowed fourteen miles to the south to empty into Lake Fork Creek three miles west of Yantis in northwestern Wood County (32°54' N, 95°39' W). In the late 1970s the lower streambed was inundated by Lake Fork Reservoir, so that the creek now flows into the reservoir two miles southeast of Seymore in extreme southern Hopkins County. The stream crosses generally flat terrain with local shallow depressions and sandy and clay loam soils. The area vegetation consists primarily of water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, and grasses.
