CHRISTMAS CREEK

CHRISTMAS CREEK. Christmas Creek rises seven miles east of Axtell in northeastern Limestone County (at 31°41' N, 96°52' W) and runs southeast and then north for twenty-four miles to its mouth on the Navasota River, near Lake Mexia (at 31°39' N, 96°37' W). The surrounding flat to rolling prairie is surfaced by clay that supports mesquite, grasses, hardwood forest, and scrub brush. The stream was named by a group of surveyors who camped there on Christmas Day of 1855.
