COOK BRANCH. Cook Branch, also known as Cook Creek, rises just north of Grounds in east central Houston County (at 31°25' N, 95°23' W) and runs northeast for five miles to its mouth on San Pedro Creek, two miles east of Refuge (at 31°30' N, 95°22' W). The surrounding flat terrain is surfaced by clay and sandy loam that supports water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, and grasses.
