LONG CREEK (SHACKELFORD COUNTY)

LONG CREEK (Shackelford County). Long Creek rises twelve miles southwest of Albany in southwestern Shackelford County (at 32°34' N, 99°28' W) and runs northwest for seventeen miles to its mouth on Deadman Creek, just across the Jones county line (at 32°41' N, 99°37' W). The creek is intermittent in its upper reaches. It traverses an area characterized by resistant ledges and low cuestas, with shallow, stony clays and sandy loams that support live oak, juniper, and grasses.
