PRAIRIE BRANCH (Cass County). Prairie Branch, also known as Big Prairie Creek, rises eight miles north of Hughes Springs in western Cass County (at 33°07' N, 94°38' W). Intermittent in its upper and middle reaches, the stream flows easterly for five miles to its mouth on Kelly Creek, five miles southwest of Marietta (at 33°07' N, 94°35' W). The soils through which the creek flows are sandy, and the gently undulating to rolling area is heavily wooded, predominantly with pines and various hardwoods.
