WHITE ROCK CREEK (MCLENNAN COUNTY)
WHITE ROCK CREEK (McLennan County). White Rock Creek, once also called Bear or Otter Creek, rises just south of Wiggins in northern McLennan County (at 31°46' N, 97°08' W) and runs south for fourteen miles to its mouth on the Brazos River, two miles south of Chalk Bluff (at 31°37' N, 97°08' W). The creek winds along an escarpment of Austin chalk, from which it takes its name, and crosses flat to rolling terrain surfaced by sandy and clay loams, calcareous clays, and shallow to moderately deep clayey sands that support hardwoods and grasses. Settlement along the creek began in the 1840s.
