GREENS BAYOU (GALVESTON COUNTY)

GREENS BAYOU (Galveston County). Greens Bayou is on Galveston Island in extreme southwestern Galveston County (at 29°16' N, 94°50' W). The bayou originally emptied into western Galveston Bay; since engineering altered coastal drainage, it flows through a golf course for a half mile before pooling to form Greens Lake, which should not be confused with the Greens Lake near the Brazoria county line. The bayou runs through an area of low ridges and swale, with dunes that support some oaks and grasses.
