BOYS PEAK. Boys Peak, formerly known as Yates Peak and as Potters Peak, is 7½ miles northwest of Lampasas and three miles west of U.S. Highway 281 in south central Lampasas County (at 31°10' N, 98°14' W). Its summit, with an elevation of 1,491 feet above sea level, rises 350 feet above nearby Lucy Creek. The peak is in an area of the Grand Prairies region characterized by steep slopes and limestone benches, which give a stairstep appearance to the landscape. The local soils are chiefly shallow clay loams that support grasses and open stands of live oak, mesquite, and Ashe juniper.
