FRENCHMAN HILLS. The Frenchman Hills are a mile west of Perdiz Creek in central Presidio County (at 30°01' N, 104°07' W). Their peaks, at elevations of 4,564 and 4,636 feet above sea level, rise 367 and 439 feet above the road running along their eastern edge. The Frenchman Hills are formed of conglomerates, sandstone, and tuff and stand in an area of desert mountain terrain with rugged canyons that dissect volcanic rock. Local vegetation includes sparse grasses, cacti, and desert shrubs of conifers and oaks.
