LEONARD MOUNTAIN
LEONARD MOUNTAIN. Leonard Mountain is eight miles north of Marathon in northern Brewster County (at 30°20' N, 103°14' W). At an elevation of 5,868 feet above sea level, it rises 1,190 feet above the Hess Ranch, one mile northeast. Shallow, stony soils of the area support live oak, piñon pine, juniper, grasses, and some mesquite. The mountain is named for local rancher Leonard L. Hess.
