POST MOUNTAIN (PRESIDIO COUNTY)

POST MOUNTAIN (Presidio County). Post Mountain is in southeastern Presidio County (at 29°29' N, 103°53' W) two miles southeast of Lava Canyon. Its summit, at an elevation of 4,630 feet above sea level, rises 430 feet over the surrounding desert. Post Mountain is formed of metamorphic and intrusive igneous rocks. It stands in an area of desert mountain terrain and rugged canyonland with loose surface rubble. Vegetation consists primarily of sparse grasses, cacti, and desert shrubs of conifers and oaks.
