SHOVEL MOUNTAIN

SHOVEL MOUNTAIN. Shovel Mountain is four miles north of Cypress Mill in northeastern Blanco County (at 30°27' N, 98°15' W). The elevation of its summit is approximately 1,540 feet above sea level. Shovel Mountain lies in an area of the Edwards Plateau characterized by shallow, stony, clayey soils and level to gently rolling uplands and ridgetops marked by steep slopes and limestone benches, which give a stairstep appearance to the landscape. Vegetation consists primarily of grasses and open stands of live oak and Ashe juniper.
