LAKE HALBERT. Lake Halbert, a reservoir in the Trinity River basin just south of Corsicana in central Navarro County (at 32°05' N, 96°24' W), is owned and operated by the city of Corsicana for municipal, industrial, and recreational purposes. Construction of the dam was started in 1920 and completed in 1921. In 1950 the spillway was raised one foot, to an elevation of 368 feet above mean sea level. The reservoir capacity is estimated to be 7,420 acre-feet, with a surface area of 650 acres. The drainage area above the dam is twelve square miles. The local terrain is flat to rolling and is surfaced by clay and sandy loams that support water-tolerant hardwoods and grasses.
