CAMPGROUND, TEXAS. Campground was on State Highway 294 twelve miles southwest of Rusk in southern Cherokee County. It was first settled around the time of the Civil War^qv and grew up around an early church of the same name. In the mid-1930s the small community had a church and a number of houses. After World War II^qv many residents left the area, but in the early 1980s a church, a store, a cemetery, and a few scattered houses still remained.
