EOLIAN, TEXAS. Eolian, on Farm Road 576 eight miles southwest of Breckenridge in west central Stephens County, was settled by cattlemen in the 1860s and 1870s. In 1880 the town received a post office named by the post office department. S. S. Cook was the first postmaster. The population was fifty in 1910 and eighteen in 1920. In 1939 the post office was closed, but a store, a school, and a church remained in operation. Although population estimates rose to fifty in the mid-1960s, only nine residents remained in Eolian by 1980. In 2000 the reported population was still nine.
