EWING, TEXAS (Coryell County). Ewing, six miles southeast of Gatesville in eastern Coryell County, may have been named for a railroad official. In 1910 the Temple-Northwestern Railway Company tried to build a railroad that would pass through Ewing on its way from Temple to Gatesville, but the line was never completed. The school at Ewing, which was formed by the consolidation of the Farmer's Branch, Branchville, and Pleasant Grove schools, became the focal point of the Ewing community. When the Fort Hoodqv military reservation was established in the area during the early 1940s, Ewing residents were forced to relocate; an annual homecoming reunion is held in Gatesville.
