MOUNT ZION, TEXAS (Coryell County). Mount Zion was twelve miles northwest of Gatesville in northwestern Coryell County. The community was established by settlers from other southern states after the Civil Warqv and grew up around a two-room schoolhouse and a Methodist church. In 1904 the school had sixty-four students and one teacher; it was consolidated with the Jonesboro system in 1935. The church merged with a church in Pancake the same year. No evidence of the community appeared on county highway maps in the 1980s.
