The settlement of Spaniards known as La Cañada (see, “Auto de Otermin,” in Auttos tocantes, 5; Autos of García, his alcaldes and others, Ibid., 23) was doubtless near, or identical with, the old Tewa pueblo known as Santa Cruz de La Cañada, which is not mentioned by Vetancur, but which Hodge (Handbook of American Indians, Part 2, 458) says was abandoned by the Indians about 1680.
