Sister to an Empire: Emily Austin Bryan Perry of Texas, 1795-1851
Summary:
Emily was the sister of Stephen F. Austin. She settled in Texas with her husband and children in the 1830s and became mistress
of Peach Point Plantation. She was one of the most prominent women in Texas during her lifetime. This talk examines her life
while it also provides a larger analysis of plantation society from the Anglo-American settlement of Mexican Texas into the
ante-bellum era.
